Psy Knitter

Jilted

And just like that, I'm back!

I've been pushing through to finish all of my WIPs. There are some projects in my knitting basket that are literally 75% complete, that I started ages ago. Here's one of them, fresh off the needles:

Punk knit.

Jilted by Jennifer Dassau
Needles: 5, 7
Yarn: Knitpicks Gloss Fingering, Velveteen
Size: 34"

I started this in 2013, seven (!) years ago. This project languished away, with literally only one sleeve left to knit. I really don't know why I do this to myself. I remember being very apprehensive about dropping the stitches on the body and arms, but it worked out perfectly. Trust the pattern!

I did make some slight modifications (purposefully and not). I made the body 1.5" longer, and I accidentally knit one extra decrease repeat on sleeve #1. I liked the resulting length, so repeated for the second sleeve. Otherwise, I followed the pattern as is. It was fun! Mindless, meditative knitting for the most part, with a couple of quirks here and there to keep things interesting.

The yarn is quite nice. I do think it's much heavier than a fingering weight though. I'd classify it as a heavy fingering to a sport weight.  Didn't pill during knitting, so I hope that's a good sign.

One thing I was surprised by is how much the garment grew after I blocked it. I'm not sure if it's the yarn (I really don't think I blocked it aggressively), but I'm actually super happy with the resulting length. The sleeves are pretty nearly full-length and the body is slightly slouchy.

Overall, I'm super happy with this project and I think I'm actually going to wear it out in the real world. I'm definitely going to check out more of this designer's knits...

Happy knitting!
