Psy Knitter

Mairi

So in keeping with all the brand-spanking new changes I've made to my blog, I'm going to try my best to be more consistent with posting stuff.

I've been trying my best to keep up with my knitting. I feel guilty about it, considering I could use the time for writing purposes, but whatevs; knitting is a de-stressor and keeps me happy, and I think we can all agree that we need a little bit more of that positivity in our lives.

Anyway, here's my latest (just in time for the tail-end of winter):

Mairi by Shelly DeJong
Needles: 7
Yarn: Malabrigo Sock, Turner
Skeins: 1
Size: small

This was probably the quickest knit I've completed, and that's entirely due to the pattern's ingenious construction (as well as my insane 4-hour-a-day commute :deep breathing:). The pattern begins with knitting the lace border, after which you pick up the stitches along the side and then fill in the body with garter stitch. So after completing the border at home, I knit the rest while riding the subway (which was relatively easy since all you had to was decrease on either side of the piece). So easy.

More about the pattern: it's well-written and a pleasure to knit. I made no modifications. On top of that, it's free! I'm boggled as to why more people haven't knit it. I think everyone needs a squishy, garter-stitch shawl to wrap around them on chilly days.

Finally, the yarn: Malabrigo Sock is fantastic, hands-down. It's definitely in my top yarns, and I'll hoard as many skeins as my wallet will allow. Also, this colorway is breathtaking. The base is a burnished green with elements of brown and purple. You'd think these colors don't go together. You'd think wrong; this yarn is gorgeous. Many thanks to the generous Ravelers who sell their yarn at a discount!

I'm off to do more school-related stuff. Later gators!
